Focus 3 Sjöar is a collaborative initiative launched in 2025 to improve water quality in Lake Sövde, Lake Snogeholm, and Lake Ellestad and their surrounding catchment areas. The project brings together local communities, authorities, environmental organizations, and researchers.
The three lakes suffer from high nutrient loads and recurring algal blooms, while also serving as valuable recreational areas for swimming, hiking, fishing, and canoeing. Because the lakes are hydrologically connected, a coordinated, whole-system approach is needed to address water quality challenges.
The project is built on strong partnerships with landowners, focusing on win-win solutions such as wetlands, improved drainage, and irrigation reservoirs that benefit both local land management and the overall health of the watershed.
